THE Gold Coast will today headline a $1.2bn federal government tourism and aviation package designed to encourage travellers to return to the skies.
More than 800,000 halfprice tickets will be on offer between April 1 and July 31 for domestic fares between capital cities and 13 tourism regions hit by COVID.
Member for McPherson Karen Andrews MP welcomed the announcement, saying it was no secret the Gold Coast tourism sector had borne the brunt of travel restrictions.
“The Morrison Government has consistently backed Gold Coast tourism and hospitality businesses, as they navigated both international and domestic border closures,” Mrs Andrews said.
“In my extensive discussions with local tourism operators, their priority has been getting tourists back to our city and I’m confident these incentives will go a long way in encouraging our interstate neighbours to come and experience all we have to offer.”
