A new survey of more than 150,000 students has revealed increasing and overwhelming satisfaction with Australia’s Vocational Education and Training (VET) system.
Assistant Minister for Vocational Education and Skills Karen Andrews said the annual National Student Outcomes Survey from the National Centre for Vocational Education Research (NCVER) showed students recognised the benefits of their VET courses.
“Graduate satisfaction with the overall training quality increased 1.3 per cent in 2017 to 87.3 per cent, with satisfaction levels reaching 90 per cent for those completing individual subjects,” Minister Andrews said.
“This is a vote of confidence in the quality of Australia’s VET sector.
“91.6 per cent of graduates would recommend their training to others, up 1.1 per cent from 2016.
“The survey says 77.7 per cent of graduates were employed after their training, demonstrating the continued competitiveness of the sector
“17.1 per cent of graduates in 2016 were employed at a higher skill level after their training, an increase of 1.7 per cent.”
“Surveys like this prove that VET provides thousands of Australians with invaluable training that can help set them up for life,” Assistant Minister Andrews said.
Assistant Minister Andrews said the Government was committed to improving the status of VET.
“This follows the successful introduction of the VET Student Loans scheme, which has helped restore integrity to the sector.
“We’re also pushing ahead with the Skilling Australians Fund, which will provide up to $1.5 billion in Commonwealth funding to the sector over the next four years to create an extra 300,000 apprentices and trainees.”
