Operating room medical staff will be able to receive essential training anywhere, anytime thanks to an innovative locally-developed online training app.
The Qlicksmart digital platform was developed entirely in Australia with the assistance of an Australian Government Innovations Connection Grant.
Launching the platform on the Gold Coast, Minister for Industry, Science and Technology Karen Andrews said Qlicksmart was a great example of an Australian-owned company developing world-leading medical technology.
“The COVID-19 crisis has highlighted the need to develop more flexible ways of working and training,” Minister Andrews said.
“Adapting in the wake of the pandemic is an essential part of our continued economic recovery. With restrictions in place for accessing hospitals, the Qlicksmart app offers a timely digital solution to help train medical staff in Australia and across the world.
“Hospitals using this technology will no longer be reliant on external specialists performing training at set times. Instead operating room nurses will be able to download training instructions for procedures, including the removal of scalpel blades, whenever they need and wherever they are working.
“It also means it can be used right here at home, as well as New York, London, Tokyo, Mexico, Bogota and Hong Kong all at the same time.”
Member for Ryan Julian Simmonds said that the development of Qlicksmart was a local success story.
“Qlicksmart is a Queensland company dedicated to developing products that provide optimal safety for both patients and medical staff,” Mr Simmonds said.
“This latest product shows that Australian companies can match it with the best in the world and its launch comes at a welcome time with the resumption of elective surgery in Australia.”
Qlicksmart was established in 1999 with the assistance of an Australian Government commercialisation loan. Its safety devices are sold in more than 50 countries with a distribution network of over 110 companies around the world.
