A new campaign that aims to create 50,000 apprenticeships and traineeships in Victoria by 2020 would be a shot in the arm for the state’s economy.
Assistant Minister for Vocational Education and Skills, Karen Andrews, today helped launch the ‘Apprenticeships for all Victorians’ campaign, run by Apprenticeships Matter.
Minister Andrews said it dovetails with the Australian Government’s commitment to boosting the status of Vocational Education and Training (VET).
“Combined with the government’s ‘real skills for real careers’ initiative, ‘Apprenticeships for all Victorians’ will help promote the benefits of VET education pathways and provide valuable skills and training for people right across the state,” Minister Andrews said.
“Apprenticeships Matter has helped find new careers for countless numbers of people since 2003 as part of their role in the apprenticeships system.
“This has been helped by the Australian Government’s $190 million per year investment in the Australian Apprenticeship Support Network, which provides the essential support required to underpin Australia’s apprenticeship system and aims to significantly improve retention and completion rates of apprentices.
“I’m committed to raising the status of VET because it has demonstrated a profound and life-changing impact on millions of Australians.
“This campaign complements the Australian Government’s $1.5 billion Skilling Australians Fund, which aims to create an additional 300,000 apprenticeships and traineeships across the nation over the next four years and the $60 million Industry Specialist Mentoring for Australian Apprentices initiative.”
