The Morrison Government is securing Australia’s economic recovery and safeguarding our digital future, rolling out from today a downloadable cyber security seminar for small and medium businesses across Australia.
Minister for Home Affairs Karen Andrews told attendees at a launch event in Canberra that malicious cyber activity against Australia’s national and economic interests is increasing, and small and medium businesses are not immune.
“Cyber security is a key enabler of Australia’s economic recovery – without it, our small and medium business could be held to ransom – literally – by criminal gangs, hackers, and other malicious actors,” Minister Andrews said.
“The threat to small businesses is real, but not insurmountable – there are simple steps all businesses can take to increase their cyber security, such as limiting administrator rights on office computers, backing up staff and client information so it can’t be hacked or ransomed, and increasing the complexity of passwords.
“In addition to securing their own digital assets and information, small businesses that participate in the seminars will be able to give customers and suppliers greater assurance that they can hold personal data – such as email, credit card information, and customer profiles – securely and responsibly.
“This program has been developed with busy small businesses in mind, providing a package of easy to understand information that owners and operators can take away and share with their own networks, customers, and staff.”
Seminar materials can be downloaded from the Government’s dedicated cyber security website.
