Karen Andrews calls community meeting on PFAS testing

Concerned residents will be able to hear directly from Airservices Australia and other government departments regarding the latest testing for PFAS at the Gold Coast Airport (GCA) at a meeting organised by Federal Member for McPherson, the Hon Karen Andrews.

The full report and Airservices Australia statement can be found at

Mrs Andrews said that while the results appear positive news a community meeting is still needed.

"Tests found that PFAS contamination in the Cobaki Broadwater has not spread from the GCA, but more testing needs to be undertaken," Mrs Andrews said.

"I have been pushing for tests to be conducted outside the airport boundaries in Queensland so people who live in these areas can have their concerns addressed."

"Locals will be pleased to hear that Airservices Australia will be commissioning a sampling program on the north-eastern side of the airport and will test selected spear bores and areas along the Coolangatta Creek.

Mrs Andrews said people who live around the airport will now have an opportunity to speak to the government departments involved with the testing around the airport.

Airservices Australia, the Commonwealth Department of Health, the Queensland Department of Environmental and Heritage Protection, the NSW Environmental Protection Authority and the GCA have all confirmed their attendance at the community meeting and take questions.

"The community meeting will be held at the Tugun Community Centre this Saturday 25 March and will run from 9:00am to 11:30am. If you would like to attend the meeting please RSVP to my office on (07) 5580 9111 or at," Mrs Andrews said.
