Community groups and sporting clubs in Robina & Merrimac are set to benefit from grants totalling $22,500 to improve facilities and assist their work in the community, as part of the Federal Government’s Stronger Communities Program.
Federal Member for McPherson Karen Andrews said she was delighted that Robina & Merrimac would share in the $150,000 that is being invested in the southern Gold Coast community in Round 4 of the Program.
“The Stronger Communities Program supports practical projects that bring our local area together, strengthen our social connections, build community participation and create vibrant and viable community ties into the future,” Mrs Andrews said.
“We have seen many great local projects funded in earlier rounds including upgrades to clubhouses, safety equipment, new bathroom facilities and a demountable building. This is a practical way our Government can deliver the benefits of a stronger economy.”
Mrs Andrews said that grants delivered for Robina & Merrimac in Round 4 included:
• $2,500 for the Lions Club of Robina for protections and storage of their community fundraising BBQ.
• $10,000 for Robina State High School P&C for grandstand seating at their school oval to improve sports events.
• $10,000 for All Saints Anglican School P&C for all weather multi-purpose shelters to provide shade and cover from the rain.
“The great thing about Stronger Communities Grants is that we are matching dollar for dollar what the community organisations themselves are putting in to the project – it’s an absolute community partnership,” Mrs Andrews said.
“I am proud to be part of a Government that understands the value of our community and sporting groups and is prepared to back their hard work and the benefits that flow to our local community.”
