The Morrison Government is stamping out crime and improving community safety right around Australia, with our $50 million investment in the highly successful Safer Communities Fund.
$1.7 million of the latest round of our Safer Communities Fund will go directly to services to keep the South-West Sydney community safe. This includes almost $1 million to Anglican Community Services, providing support for up to 480 at-risk youth aged between 15 and 18-years-old. More than $700,000 will also support the Western Sydney Migrant Resource Centre, to assist in the settlement of non-English speaking migrants in Australia.
Minister for Home Affairs, Karen Andrews, said the Morrison Government was proud to ensure the people of South-West Sydney had ongoing access to these critical local services.
“The Morrison Government knows the importance of empowering local people and organisations; these two groups have been working in Western Sydney for many years, they both have an authentic track record in the local area so I’m very pleased we’ve been able to provide them with this funding,” Minister Andrews said.
“Our approach is to give local people the support and resources they need, not parachute in based on a national agenda.”
Liberal Candidate for Fowler, Courtney Nguyen, welcomed the funding for her local community and said it would help to support and empower genuinely local solutions for multicultural communities.
“This funding will ensure programs that we know are successful in Fowler – and have been working here for many years – keep working for Fowler; it’s about supporting proven, local solutions that are authentic to the area and that we know work,” Ms Nguyen said.
“Programs that work on Scotland Island might not work in Cabramatta; that’s why I’m proud to be seeking election as part of the Morrison Government, which will always back locals.”
Only the Morrison Government will continue to deliver a better future for Fowler, and this is part of our plan to build a strong economy and a stronger future.
