Australia’s Unique Student Identifier (USI) system is proving a success for thousands of students and registered training organisations.
More than a quarter of a million USI transcripts having been viewed to date.
A USI transcript is a clear, easy-to-understand summary of a person’s nationally recognised training. In May this year, a new service was introduced to allow people to use their USI to easily obtain a free online record of their qualifications and training.
Assistant Minister for Vocational Education and Skills, Karen Andrews said the figures confirmed the value of the service.
“I’m pleased to see that people are really embracing this excellent service, with approximately 265,000 transcripts viewed and nearly 50,000 downloaded,” Minister Andrews said.
“When I launched USI transcripts, I said they would be a simple and effective way to help future generations provide a record of their training outcomes to demonstrate their qualifications – and these figures indicate that people share that view.
“Many Australians return to training multiple times throughout their lives to help progress and change their careers. This service makes it easier for them to access their past credentials quickly and easily.”
Minister Andrews said the transcripts linked together the national records of training that a person had completed at different training providers, in different states and in different years back to 2015.
“This saves students from cobbling together multiple bits of paperwork from separate organisations and gives Australian businesses and employers a clear understanding of their employees’ level of training, or the training qualifications of prospective new employees,” Minister Andrews said.
“The USI service is just one of the ways the Government is supporting vocational education and training in this country. Alongside our Real Skills for Real Careers promotional push, and our Skilling Australians Fund, we are continuing to strengthen skills development in this country.”
