76 unsung local heroes have been acknowledged today with a McPherson Community Achiever Award celebrating their tireless dedication to volunteering.
Federal Member for McPherson, Karen Andrews MP, said she was honoured to present the awards to such a diverse group of local heroes who voluntarily give their time and expertise to a myriad of clubs and organisations.
Mrs Andrews established the awards to celebrate and thank the outstanding contributions made by so many local residents.
‘Each of today’s award recipients has made a huge difference to so many within our community and I am proud to represent people like this in our nation’s parliament’ she said.
In the three categories for nomination, 36 awards were presented to Community Achievers, 32 awards were presented to Surf Life Saving Community Achievers, and 8 in the Young Achiever category.
Recipients ranged from members of Marine Rescue, Lions Clubs, schools, RSL’s, sporting clubs, and community progress associations.
Danny Hoyland has been a member of the Coolangatta SLSC for 45 years and has recently been awarded Life Membership of Surf Life Saving Australia. Over the years he has nominated many members of the Coolangatta Club for this award and this year they decided it was his turn to be recognised.
Mrs Andrews said ‘Each year I look forward to discovering more great Southern Gold Coast stories and meeting the wonderful people behind them.’
