Submissions open for review of vocational education regulation

Assistant Minister for Vocational Education and Skills Karen Andrews has invited the public to make submissions to a review of vocational education regulation.

The review of the National Vocational Education and Training Regulator Act 2011, led by Professor Valerie Braithwaite, was announced in June and will examine whether the Act supports a responsive, effective and efficient approach to regulation of the sector.

Minister Andrews said the independent review is important to ensure the integrity of Australia’s VET sector, and stressed that feedback from the public will be essential.

“The Turnbull Government is committed to improving the quality of the VET sector and this review will help determine if the Australian Skills Quality Authority (ASQA) has appropriate legislative capacity to regulate the sector efficiently and effectively,” Minister Andrews said.

“Professor Braithwaite is keen to hear from a wide range of stakeholders across Australia   from students and parents to large training providers   on how we can improve regulation to ensure Australia has a top-quality VET sector.

“I want to ensure that ASQA has the powers it needs to protect students, employers and the public against providers that don’t meet high quality standards, and to uphold those standards.

“I encourage anyone who has a view about how the sector’s regulation can be improved to visit the review’s website and make a submission.”

Interested stakeholders can make a submission addressing the review’s Terms of Reference at www.education.gov.au/nvetr-act-review

The call for public submissions to the review will close on 18 August 2017, with the report expected by the end of the year.
